The big, bold bags to have for fall 2017

The cold weather means more layers to carry around, but where are you going to store them? Perhaps you do some Christmas shopping on your lunch break, do you really want to travel home with multiple bags? This season has the answer to all women’s hoarding problems: the biggest bag trend this fall is the oversized bag.

For this fall trend texture is key. Metallic fabric and silver metal finishings are popular for this stylish bag trend. Proenza Schouler has accessorised their fall 2017 collection with metallic finished leather bags with a scrunched-creased appearance. Metal rings and zips further decorates this disco bag.

Similarly big bags are highly embellished this season. Michael Kors embellished their black leather oversized bags from top to bottom with silver ring studs. This matched the court shoes and pencil skirt it was dressed with. The eyelets added detail and decoration in a simple yet stylish way.

Other big bags look at the handmade and personalised preferences many seem to share at present. Embroidery is key here. A large natural bunch red poppies have been embroidered to the base with autumnal tones of red and green. Gucci has adapted the classic tote to be rigid and oversized. Edges are bound with black and tan binding, whilst straps are red, white and blue and run down the length and across the depth of the bag.

In contrast textural fabrications are a popular choice for bag designers this season. Altuzarra has created an oversized bag which  has a fish net like appearance created from a lattice display of knotted leather strips which is also layered over a rigid leather shell. The bag strap has been further embellished with stud adding embellishment in a minimalistic way. Altuzarra is also a good example of how the handbag charm has come back on trend. The brand has used a crimson leather to create a three dimensional flower both adopting the accessory and colour trend.

The large day clutch is a key silhouette for the oversized bag trend. The style is sleek and slim but massive in size. Proenza Schouler approaches the oversized clutch with metallic fabric, but this time accompanied by black and white panels to create a monochrome-space vibe. The print includes cut off typography, stripes and squares a simplistic design to suit the minimalist.

Smooth classic cuts are also a preferred style for autumn/winter 2017. Michael Kors has taken this approach with their oversized clutches. The cut is not too dissimilar to a satchel, minus the straps. The clutch is made from a luxurious smooth black leather and bulky clip fastening.

Returning to the textured trend, a mix of suede with leather is an ideal fabrication for the on trend handbag this fall.  Mulberry adopts both fabrics in a pale blue tone and finishes their luxury oversized clutch bags with white stitch detailing and curved corners creating a cute statement piece to dress your autumnal outfits with.
